Excessive heat and wear is usually a result of over tightened blade tension. The cutter blade should slide back and forth fairly easily.
Place the blade flat on a table with the screw side down and the teeth pointing away from you. Slide the cutter blade to the right then place a flat head screw driver between the blade spring and the comb blade. Pry up on the blade spring slightly then slide the cutter blade back and test the blade tension. If the blade tension is still tight then repeat this procedure.
WHAT IF THE BLADE RATTLES OR CHATTERS?
Place the blade flat on a table with the screw side down and the teeth pointing away from you. With a small pair of needle nose plyers, adjust the ears of the socket so that they are straight up and down. Place the blade on a clipper as usual (make sure that your clipper is running on low speed). The blade will be difficult to lock down. Continue to apply pressure until the blade locks onto the latch and is firmly seated.
